With PEACH out now, we took some time to hear from Mary Knoblock. Read below to learn more about Mary Knoblock, the story behind PEACH, and what’s to come.

Hi Mary Knoblock! Let’s start with how did you choose your artist name?

I decided to release music under my own name because the work feels deeply personal and connected to my artistic identity as a whole. I’ve explored different creative projects and aliases over the years, but at a certain point I wanted the music to feel more direct and honest.

What city are you from, and where are you based now?

I grew up in the Midwest and am currently based in Portland, Oregon.

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?

Music has always been part of my life in some form. I started with piano and songwriting very early on, but over time it evolved into something much bigger: a way to translate emotion, memory, and atmosphere into sound. I think there was a moment where I realized I wasn’t just writing songs anymore, I was building entire emotional worlds.

How would you describe your sound?

Cinematic, emotional, atmospheric, and layered. There are elements of neo-classical piano, ambient music, experimental pop, and electronic textures woven together. I’m very drawn to music that feels immersive and transportive.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?

I paint, write poetry, work with visual art, and spend a lot of time studying aesthetics, emotion, and storytelling. Nature is also a huge source of inspiration for me light, seasons, landscapes, old architecture, small details that carry a certain feeling.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

I’m inspired by artists who create complete emotional and aesthetic worlds around their work. I love cinematic composers, ambient artists, experimental electronic music, and emotionally driven songwriting. I’m especially drawn to music that balances beauty with atmosphere.

If you could collaborate with any artist or composer, who would it be and why?

I’m always inspired by artists who fully commit to building a world around their work people who treat music as atmosphere, emotion, and storytelling all at once. I love collaborations that feel transformative rather than predictable.

What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?

One of the most meaningful things has been seeing listeners emotionally connect with the work in ways I never expected. There’s something really powerful about hearing that a piece stayed with someone or helped them through a certain moment in their life.

What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?

To trust subtlety and consistency. Not everything has to happen overnight. Building a body of work slowly and intentionally has taught me that small steps compound over time.

Now onto your release, PEACH. What inspired this album?

PEACH was inspired by memory, longing, softness, and the strange emotional weight certain moments carry long after they’re over. I wanted it to feel intimate and slightly surreal almost like flipping through faded photographs or remembering a dream.

What is the overall theme of PEACH?

The overall theme is an emotional atmosphere holding onto beauty, tenderness, nostalgia, and fleeting moments before they disappear. It explores the feeling of something delicate existing just outside of time.

What was the inspiration behind the cover artwork for PEACH?

I wanted the artwork to feel soft, cinematic, romantic, and dreamlike, something visually reflective of the music itself. The peach tones symbolize warmth, memory, vulnerability, and emotional glow.

What was the creative process like when making PEACH?

Very intuitive and layered. Most pieces began with a piano motif or emotional idea and gradually expanded outward into textures and atmosphere. I tend to build music visually and emotionally at the same time.

How long did it take to complete PEACH?

The emotional ideas behind it existed for a long time, but the actual process of shaping and refining the project unfolded gradually over several months.

Is there a specific song on PEACH that speaks to you the most? If so, why?

There are a few pieces that feel especially personal because they capture emotions that are difficult to explain in words alone. I think the quieter and more vulnerable tracks tend to stay with me the longest.

What do you hope fans take away from PEACH and your music in general?

I hope people feel transported when they listen that they slow down for a moment and reconnect with something emotional, beautiful, or meaningful inside themselves.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?

I’m continuing to expand the sonic and visual world surrounding my recent releases while working on new cinematic and emotionally immersive projects. There’s a lot more music coming, along with visual pieces and experimental creative work connected to the larger universe I’ve been building.

Before you go, let’s ask you an off-topic question. What’s something that people might be surprised to learn about you?

Outside of music, I’m deeply interested in psychology, visual art, symbolism, and the emotional impact of spaces and environments. A lot of those ideas quietly shape the music, even when listeners don’t immediately realize it.

Thank you for the great interview; wish you much continued success!
