UK music artist Zachary Mason kicks off the fall with a new EP, 5…4…3…2…1… The three-track EP is the first project that the British sensation has released since his debut album, Songs. 5…4…3…2…1… includes the lead single and fan favorite, “The Funky Martians.” It also includes a pair of never-before-heard tracks. The genre-fluid EP showcases Zachary Mason’s one-of-a-kind sound.
The EP is a masterfully cohesive body of work that tells a continuing tale starting with the titular track, “5…4…3…2…1…” The record commences the story – Earth is in dire straits because of the irreparable harm of climate change, so humans are forced to flee. True to form, the song has a wavy, Space Rock sound. United Kingdom’s Zachary Mason adds his Experimental touch with different frequencies of sound. Track two, “The Funky Martians,” is a song that served as the lead single for the EP and was released earlier this summer. ‘The Funky Martians’ is the next phase of the story – humans land on Mars and are confronted by hostile Martians, but to the humans’ surprise, the Martians are enthralled by funky music. Zachary Mason utilizes vocal inflections to differentiate the vocals of the narrator, Martians, and colonists in the humorous Funk-laced, Experimental song. The closer, “Earthsick,” is a play on the term, homesick, and this part of the story dives into humans being dissatisfied with Mars and their regret of ruining their original home, Earth. The six-minute track is an emotive Grunge, Psychedelic Rock anthem that puts Zachary Mason’s raw, soothing vocals on display.
5…4…3…2…1… is a product of a dream team: Nate Barnes of Rose Hill Drive (drums), John Thomasson of Little Big Town (bass), and Derrick Lin of Voyage In Solitude (mixing/mastering). It is important to also note that this is the first time that Zachary Mason plays bass using a keyboard within his music. 5…4…3…2…1… is a masterpiece that has a palpable message with a lighthearted vibe. Ready, set, go press play on 5…4…3…2…1…
