Anna Porto is a 21-year-old pop artist from Melbourne whose music blends honesty, emotion, and modern pop energy. Growing up, Anna Porto always found comfort and inspiration in music—it quickly became more than just a passion; it became the way that she expressed who she truly is. For Anna Porto, songwriting isn’t just about melodies and lyrics, it’s about telling real stories that people can connect with.
As an artist, Anna Porto is passionate about making music that feels real—songs that capture the highs and lows of relationships, the vulnerability of being human, and the strength that comes from reflection. With every release, she hopes to create not just tracks people listen to, but songs they truly feel.
With “Hopeless Love Affair” out now, we took some time to hear from Anna Porto. Read below to learn more about Anna Porto, the story behind “Hopeless Love Affair,” and what’s to come.
Hi Anna Porto! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?
My artist name was an easy decision. I chose to use my full name, as I want my music to be directly connected to who I am. It feels more authentic to present myself this way rather than creating a stage name
What city are you from, and where are you based now?
I’m from Melbourne, Victoria, and I’m currently based in Tyabb on the Mornington Peninsula.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
I’ve always been a singer, but I started formal lessons at thirteen and continued exploring music throughout high school, performing in bands and taking classes. I began writing songs in Year 10 and have kept developing that ever since. In 2024, I decided to start recording and releasing my music, as I felt it was the right time to share my work and see how people connect with it.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
I’d describe my sound as pop with a blend of soulful and electronic influences. My music focuses on strong melodies and emotional storytelling, aiming to create something that feels both modern and heartfelt.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
Outside of music, I love spending time at the beach whether it’s snorkeling, open-water swimming, or anything connected to the ocean. Creativity has always come naturally to me, and whenever I feel inspired, I go straight to the piano to see what ideas flow out.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
Some of my main influences are Dua Lipa, Adele, and Lana Del Rey. I admire their vocals, storytelling, and individuality. I’m also really inspired by my vocal coach, Kye, who has been such an important part of developing my sound and confidence as an artist.
What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?
One of the proudest moments of my music career so far has been writing and releasing my own music. It’s incredibly rewarding to see ideas that I’ve created come to life and connect with people. Every time I release a song, it feels like a milestone in my journey as an artist and reminds me why I love doing this.
What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?
One of the greatest lessons that I’ve learned so far is not to be afraid to express yourself through music and to share your songs and stories with others. At the same time, I’ve realized it’s so important to create for yourself first—your music should reflect who you are. If it connects with people and does well, that’s an amazing bonus, but at the end of the day, it will always be about staying true to myself and my own journey.
Now onto your release, ‘Hopeless Love Affair.’ What inspired this song? What is ‘Hopeless Love Affair’ about?
‘Hopeless Love Affair’ is about being stuck in a relationship that doesn’t feel right—hoping it could be something more, but being too scared or unsure to leave. It’s inspired by watching other people’s relationships and my own experiences with young love, learning about the ups and downs, mistakes, and heartache that come with it.
How did the collaboration with Christa Porto come about?
I’ve always wanted to write a song with my sister, so one night we just sat down at the piano and started playing around with ideas. The inspiration came naturally, and it felt really special. I’d always hoped she’d sing on one of my tracks, but it was even better that she helped co-write it too.
What was the creative process like when making ‘Hopeless Love Affair?’
The creative process for ‘Hopeless Love Affair’ was really personal and hands-on. I started with the emotions that I’d felt in young love and the experiences I’d seen around me. From there, I sat at the piano and let the melody and lyrics come together, experimenting until it felt honest and raw. It was all about capturing that mix of love, fear, and longing in a way that felt real.
How long did it take to complete ‘Hopeless Love Affair?’
We wrote the song at home on the piano in about a day, then took it into the studio and worked on it with my producer, Ben Oldlad, for a few weeks. Gradually, it all came together.
What is your favorite lyric in ‘Hopeless Love Affair’ and why?
My favorite lyric is: ‘Even if you told me you never wanted me, I’d stay hoping you would love me.’ I love it because it feels so real and raw, it’s honest about that feeling of holding onto someone even when you know it might not work out. I think a lot of people can relate to that mix of hope, fear, and longing, and it really captures the emotional heart of the song.
What message or messages do you hope fans take away from ‘Hopeless Love Affair’ and your music in general?
I hope fans take away that it’s okay to feel all the complicated emotions that come with love—hope, fear, and even heartbreak. With ‘Hopeless Love Affair’ and my music in general, I want people to feel seen and understood, and to know that they’re not alone in their experiences. I also hope it encourages them to be honest with themselves and embrace their feelings, even the messy ones.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?
No shows planned at the moment, but I have more songs coming out very soon.
