Last month, Atlanta-based Indie Rock band Last Relapse ended their hiatus with the single, “Everyone Dances Outside of Their Bodies,” which was accompanied by a music video. The song served as a lead single for their newly released debut EP, Last Relapse EP. The five-track titular EP has a cinematic soundscape that has a diverse range of sounds: Folk Rock, Post-Grunge, Psychedelic Rock, etc.

The EP kicks off with the lead single, “Everyone Dances Outside of Their Bodies.” The song is about the inner tug and pull. “It’s about duality within oneself — the internal conflict between perception and reality.” Last Relapse continue, “It explores how our thoughts filter what we see, making it hard to connect authentically with others until we face those inner distortions.” The music video accentuates the song’s theme.

Track two, “Hey Girl,” is a guitar-led record with a catchy hook. The raw, tuneful vocals are on full display. The electric breakdown closes out the song perfectly. “Rat in a Cage” follows “Hey Girl.” The angsty track carries a palpable message. The penultimate song, “In My Place,” slows the tempo down. The seven-minute track has a somber tone and thought-provoking lyrics, which the wavy, emotive instrumentation heighten. The EP closes with the dreamy, psychedelic track, “Solfeggio Dream.” The eclectic record continues with the downtempo sound, but has an eccentric, enchanting arrangement. The diminuendo of the song serves as a great conclusion for an immaculate project.

The Last Relapse EP is chock full of tracks that explore the ins and outs of the Alternative and Indie Rock genres. Last Relapse fully showcase what fans were missing during their absence. The EP is a prelude of what is to come from this new phase of Last Relapse.
