With “Secret Game” out now, we took some time to hear from Sunset Rebellion. Read below to learn more about Sunset Rebellion, the story behind “Secret Game,” and what’s to come.
Hi! Let’s start with how did the band’s name come about?
The name came from a deeper place. Sunset represents the passage of time—the moment when things start to fade. Rebellion is our answer to that. It’s a stand against aging, conformity, and everything that tries to quiet you down. It’s also a loud scream to the world that rock is not dead and never will be.
What city are you all from, and where are you all based now?
We’re all based in the Orlando, Florida area. Some of us came from different backgrounds (Philadelphia, Florida, Arizona, Caracas), but Orlando is home now. It’s where we write, rehearse, and perform the most.
How and when did the band form?
We started in 2023 with a clear goal—to create music that hits hard, but says something real. Each member had played in other projects before, but this lineup felt like the right chemistry. We wrote “Rebellion” early on, and that set the tone for everything that followed.
How would you all describe your band’s sound to readers who may not be familiar with you all?
Our sound sits between hard rock and post-grunge. Think big riffs, emotional vocals, and honest lyrics. We like to mix aggression with melody, pain with hope. If you like bands that make you feel something real, that’s us.
Who are some of your band’s main musical influences?
We draw from Shinedown, Three Days Grace, Seether, and A Perfect Circle. Each of those bands shaped how we balance melody and intensity. You can also catch hints of early Foo Fighters and Soundgarden in our approach to dynamics.
Who would be a dream to collaborate with?
We’d love to collaborate with Brent Smith from Shinedown or Adam Gontier from Saint Asonia. Both have that mix of raw emotion and control that we really respect. Working with either would be an incredible creative experience.
What’s one of the proudest moments of your group’s music career so far?
Releasing our debut album, Exit Delay, was a milestone. It represented years of work, late nights, and personal struggles. Seeing people connect with songs like “My Therapy” and “Rebellion” made every bit of it worth it. We have also had the opportunity to play with awesome bands like Tantric, P{petty Boy Floyd, Lydia Can’t Breathe, Alive in Stone, among others.
What would you all say are the greatest lessons that you’ve all learned so far?
To stay authentic. You can’t chase trends or overthink what people want to hear. When we write what we truly feel, it always connects better. And, teamwork—nothing moves forward unless everyone pulls in the same direction.
Now onto “Secret Game.” What inspired this song? What is “Secret Game” about?
“Secret Game” is about two people who find something thrilling together—something they can’t share with the world. It’s a story about passion, secrecy, and the line between temptation and trust. There’s danger in it, but also joy.
What was the inspiration behind the cover artwork for “Secret Game?”
The artwork captures the core of the song—intimacy, secrecy, and temptation. Two skeletons share a whisper, symbolizing a hidden connection that lives outside the world’s judgment. Stripping them down to bone makes it raw and universal—there’s no gender, age, or mask left, only the truth between them.
The red flame beneath the ribs adds tension. It’s the pulse of desire and danger that drives the “game.” The overall tone—minimal, gritty, and slightly mischievous—reflects both the song’s seductive rhythm and our visual identity as a band.
What was the creative process like when making “Secret Game?”
We wanted the track to feel like a chase—always moving, never fully revealing where it’s heading. Every layer was built to create that mix of seduction and suspense. The recording sessions were fluid and spontaneous; nothing felt forced. It was one of those songs that took shape naturally once the energy clicked in the room.
How long did it take to complete “Secret Game?”
Roughly three months from first demo to final mix. Most of that time went into getting the atmosphere right. We didn’t want it to sound overproduced—just alive and cinematic.
What message or messages do you all hope fans take away from “Secret Game” and your band’s music in general?
That it’s okay to explore what makes you feel alive, even if it’s not always simple or comfortable. Our music speaks to the people balancing light and darkness inside themselves. We all play our own “secret games.”
What’s next for you all? Are you all working on any upcoming projects, or do you all have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?
We’re currently writing and recording our second album, set for 2026. The next single, “The Human in Us All,” will drop 11/21. On the live side, we’ll be back on stage across Central Florida in early 2026.
