Peter Martin Voy is a Munich-based multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and music/video producer with over 40 years of experience in rock, blues, jazz and funk. His musical path began at the age of twelve, composing on the piano and playing drums in a school band. He later studied with jazz musician George Bishop (Jazzkantine, Dancing Fantasy), at Drummers Focus in Munich and with Greg Ohlbeck in Sydney (Julian Lennon). “Safe With Me Version 2025”is his first official solo release under his own name. Produced in his Munich studio, the track blends live-feeling grooves, warm vocals and a modern, atmospheric sound, shaped by decades of band work, studio sessions. Unlike many artists who followed a straight career path, Peter Martin Voy spent years focusing on raising his two children and building a business in the building trade to support his family. Music continued late at night and in the background – in composing, playing and producing for others – while his own songs stayed unreleased.

With “Safe With Me” out now, we took some time to hear from Peter Martin Voy. Read below to learn more about Peter Martin Voy, the story behind “Safe With Me,” and what’s to come.

Hi Peter Martin Voy! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?

My artist name is actually a variation of my Polish family name. One of my first bands was called “The Woities,” which was also inspired by that name. Over time, I simplified it and turned it into “Voy” – it still carries my roots, but it’s easier to remember and feels very natural to me as an artist name.

What city are you from, and where are you based now?

I’m originally from Wolfsburg in Germany – the VW town – and I’m now based near Munich, close to the mountains.

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?

I’ve been drawn to music since childhood. In my twenties, I started to seriously pursue a career as a drummer. Over the last ten years, I’ve focused more and more on composing and producing as well, which led me to releasing my own songs.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?

I’d describe my sound as uplifting, authentic pop music – somewhere between the timeless songwriting of Phil Collins and the modern, emotional pop worlds of Coldplay and James Bay.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?

I love hiking in the mountains and riding my bicycle. Going out into nature really helps me reset and stay inspired.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

Some of my biggest influences are Sting, Prince, Toto and Joni Mitchell – artists who combine strong songwriting with emotional depth and musicality.

Who would be a dream to collaborate with?

I would love to have a collaboration with Alicia Keys. She has an incredible combination of soul, honesty and musical depth, and I admire how she connects with people through her songs and her piano playing.

What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?

Honestly, it’s the release of “Safe With Me.” It’s my first official release under my own name, and I’m really excited about it. So far, the feedback has been fantastic, which means a lot to me as an independent artist.

What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?

Never give up, and follow your dream step by step – but always keep moving. Progress is sometimes slow, but consistency is everything.

Now onto your release, “Safe With Me.” What inspired this song? What is “Safe With Me” about?

“Safe With Me” was born during the pandemic, when a lot of people around me were dealing with fear, isolation and overload. I wanted to write a song that feels like someone quietly saying: “You’re safe with me. You can land here for a moment.” In 2021, I took an online production course with Ryan Tedder – not with direct personal feedback, but I learned a lot about production techniques and working faster. “Safe With Me” started as one of the songs from that course and then went through many different versions over the years before becoming the 2025 version you hear now. At its core, it’s about being a safe place for someone you truly care about – calm, honest and human.

What was the inspiration behind the cover artwork for “Safe With Me?”

The idea was to show the connection and sense of grounding that I find in nature. Nature is a big resource for me, and I wanted the artwork to reflect that feeling of calm and safety.

What was the creative process like when making “Safe With Me?”

As so often, it felt like the song came through me. The words and music arrived quite naturally at the beginning, and then I spent time shaping the arrangement and production around that initial feeling.

How long did it take to complete “Safe With Me?”

In total, about four years from the first idea to the final version. The song went through several stages and versions until it felt truly right.

What is your favorite lyric in “Safe With Me” and why?

My favorite line is: “Whatever might be, you are safe with me.” For me, it carries a sense of confidence and hope – and honestly, what more do you need in difficult times than to know that you’re safe with someone?

What message or messages do you hope fans take away from “Safe With Me” and your music in general?

I hope people reconnect with core values like trust, support, community and love. I feel these are needed today more than ever. If my music can remind someone of that, then it has done its job.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?

I’ve been very busy with the release of “Safe With Me,” and right now, I’m working on the next release. I hope to have the new song ready in January or February, and I’m really looking forward to sharing more music soon.
