Oryah is a recording artist from the East Coast of the US. He spent the first few years of his music journey making beats, but eventually started rapping during the pandemic under his first name. Oryah always loved music growing up and realized it was his passion after playing Guitar Hero heavily as a child. Then, his love for Rock/Metal transitioned into Hip-Hop/R&B during his early teenage years. Oryah makes an effort to keep his sound as unique and authentic as his own name is.
With “Fall Back” out now, we took some time to hear from Oryah. Read below to learn more about Oryah, the story behind “Fall Back,” and what’s to come.
Hi Oryah! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?
Back when I first started making music as a producer, I used to work under the name ‘Oreezy,’ inspired by the nicknames of many Hip-Hop legends such as Lil Wayne. But once I decided to become a vocalist and songwriter, it felt more authentic to just go by a stage name as unique as my actual name.
What city are you from, and where are you based now?
I was originally born in Brooklyn, NYC. However, my family moved us out to the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania at a very young age. I spent most of my childhood living weekdays in PA and going to NY on the weekends. These days, I’m based in the Philly area.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
I think it was something that I was always naturally drawn to. My dad tells me stories about how my first crib was made on top of one of his giant sound system speakers. As a teenager, I started off making beats in middle school. Eventually, I lost the passion for that during the pandemic, but it transitioned into me rapping full-time today!
How has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound?
I think it played a pretty big role. Growing up, I was always listening to music most of the time, even while doing other pastimes. My father also used to be a DJ in NYC and has a deep passion for music as well.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
I would say that I make music for the ‘vibers,’ as Isaiah Rashad from TDE famously says. In general, my artistry is pretty versatile and expansive. But, I do try to keep a consistent laidback vibe that makes songs very pleasant on the ear. If you like to relax and explore your inner world, my music is definitely for you.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
Not too many other hobbies. I do watch a ton of NBA basketball, though and can’t wait for the season to start. Lately, I have been watching a lot of anime again, too, with my partner during our quality time together. Love spending time with her. Most days, I end up being swamped in work, though if I’m being honest.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
Definitely artists like Earl Sweatshirt, Isaiah Rashad and Lucki primarily. I also really love Kendrick Lamar’s approach to concepts and writing, as well as Chief Keef’s ability to layer his vocals in harmony.
What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?
When my biggest song so far, ‘JPAY!,’ hit 10,000 streams for the first time on Spotify. Streams are just numbers at the end of the day, but it’s also surreal that music can really spread that far into the world. Very appreciative of all the listeners and those who have listened.
What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?
Gotta be patient while accepting the highs and lows at all times. And also, progress is never going to be linear! That applies to life as a whole, though.
Now onto your release, ‘Fall Back.’ What inspired this song? What is ‘Fall Back’ about?
In short, ’Fall Back’ is a melodic track that explores the importance of taking a step back as the key to moving forward. The lyrics are very raw and self-reflective for those who can relate to the experiences portrayed. If you’re ready for the fall season to really kick in, I guarantee this record will be perfect for you!
What was the creative process like when making ‘Fall Back?’
It was a song that I wrote a very long time ago and tried a couple of different beats with. This official version ended up sounding perfect the instant that I started laying vocals down at The Mix Lounge in Allentown, PA. I do still plan on releasing the original version of the song very soon on my YouTube channel: @oryahWAV.
How long did it take to complete ‘Fall Back?’
Factoring in how long ago I wrote the track, I’d say it’s been a year or two at least. But, the actual recording itself was probably just an hour or less of me recording one takes. Mixing was probably another hour or two, but I tend to work pretty fast overall. My engineer, Nate Kobain, makes the process very easy!
What is your favorite lyric in ‘Fall Back’ and why?
‘Had to fall back for a minute, but I’m back again.’ It’s just extremely catchy, and I knew it’d be a hit the instant it crossed my mind.
What message or messages do you hope fans take away from ‘Fall Back’ and your music in general?
I want the audience to know that it’s perfectly okay to take a break, step back, and come back refreshed to any situation you come across in life. It’s easier said than done, but it will save you a lot of problems in the long run!
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?
Getting to book some live shows for the end of this year and 2026. Been recording tons of music, I’m very excited about. Also been getting back into collaborations too! In 2026, we have a couple of songs ready to go for some big-name features. Music video for ‘Fall Back’ is on the way ASAP, as well as more episodes of my animated cartoon series Yahman The Shaman.
