With his single, “Electric Blue,” out now, we took some time to hear from Miles Nxbxdy. Read below to learn more about Miles Nxbxdy, the story behind his single, and what’s to come.

Hi Miles Nxbxdy! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?

The whole idea was to be like a mirror for other people. I am nobody I am you, you are me, we are nobody, the unseen. The ‘xs’ represent xs over eyes in an attempt to make it easier for others to see themselves in my music.

What city are you from and where are you based now?

I am from Jackson, NJ, and for where I am based now let’s say Nowhere, New Jersey.

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?

Honestly, it kind of crept up on me – I played several instruments growing up and enjoyed playing, but it wasn’t that serious. I started performing when I was around twenty-three, and it just got more serious every year.

Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?

That is a difficult question to answer for me. I don’t remember a lot of my life before the age of eighteen, but I guess it shaped me. It’s not that I was abused or anything. I just had undiagnosed bipolar disorder for most of my life. But, I can tell you all that the music I grew up on, and it was a range from Funkadelic to Talking Heads to Tom Waits to Jimi Hendrix.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?

It is hard to describe my sound since it isn’t quite alternative rap or experimental rap. I would consider my sound post-rap in the same way that we define post-punk in that my sound involves sounds from several other genres.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?

I like to draw from time to time, I read Manga, I like to come up with TV shows and movie ideas and play video games. I am pretty introverted; my friends have to drag me out of the house sometimes. I don’t try to stay creative if I am creative, I am, and if I’m not, I’m not. But, when I do feel a rush of creativity, it usually comes from conversations with people or movies.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

Death Grips, Sufjan Stevens, Denzel Curry, Nine Inch Nails, 2Pac, Vince Staples, Outkast, and Joy Division.

Who would be a dream to collaborate with?

My dream collab, right now, is Scaring the Hoes.

What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?

Probably performing at the Stone Pony in Asbury park, or when I released my first album in 2018 – a random kid from Russia messaged me on Insta and said that the album was important to him and felt like it said how he felt.

What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?

Don’t trust people.

Now onto your release, ‘Electric Blue.’ What inspired this song?

I was in a bipolar episode, took mushrooms, and had a pretty vivid trip. I was just dancing, doing my hardest to be in the moment and not break down.

What is ‘Electric Blue’ about?

It is about not wanting to think about anything, whether good or bad. I was recently broken up with and trying to see people, but everything felt bad. I just wanted to be alone with people. I was a coward, I didn’t want to see anything, I wanted to create a world for myself.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from ‘Electric Blue?’

It is okay to escape for a little, but you gotta be honest with yourself eventually.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?

I have a song coming out soon and an album called Manic Vol.1 coming out July 18th. Also, if things go well, another album and an EP before the year ends.

Where can we follow you on social media?

Really just on Instagram, kind of TikTok – I hate social media. I am trying to make myself more involved and better at emails and just following through. I just get these debilitating depressive episodes sometimes, and being a person is hard enough.
