With Only Love out now, we took some time to hear from Mark Moule. Read below to learn more about Mark Moule, the story behind Only Love, and what’s to come.

Hi Mark Moule! Let’s start with how did you choose your artist name?

I just kept it simple and used my real name.

What city are you from, and where are you based now?

I’m originally from the Birmingham region in the West Midlands. I’m based in Busselton, west Australia now.

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?

I started playing guitar and writing music while I was working away on a few gold mines around west Australia. I did ten years all up. Then when I left over five years ago, I started putting time into playing local open mic and small gigs around the south west.

How would you describe your sound?

I’d like to think it’s quite soulful and a mix of a lot of genres from blues, folk, and indie music.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?

I love the outdoors and walking my dog. Also am a keen surfer. I find a lot of peace in the ocean and in the bush, which allows me to tap into my creative side.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

I’m a big fan of Eddy Vedder, being a nineties kid.

Who would be a dream to collaborate with?

I would love to collaborate with Phil Collins.

What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?

I think my proudest moment would be the release of my EP, Only Love. It’s been a long time coming.

What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?

I’d say being able to fully relax on the stage when performing. It’s taken a long time to have full confidence in myself as a performer.

Now onto your release, Only Love. What inspired this EP?

Only Love is a very personal piece of work to me straight from the sole. There’s songs in there that were written over 15 years ago. The first verse on “Only Love” came to me in a dream before I even picked up a guitar and pen. I think timing is everything and these song are more relevant today than they’ve ever been.

What is the overall theme of Only Love?

I think the EP covers a few themes, but the main theme that I think it’s trying to get across is today the world needs empathy and love.

What was the inspiration behind the cover artwork for Only Love?

I wanted something simple to show people who I am. Just a caring man who enjoys making music.

What was the creative process like when making Only Love?

It went very smoothly. I worked with a fantastic musician called Andy McManus – I’d always been a fan of his style.

How long did it take to complete Only Love?

We had long breaks in between songs. I’d say it took us twelve months to get it finished, but in the scheme of things, some songs had taken 15 years to get recorded – what’s another twelve months.

Is there a specific song on Only Love that speaks to you the most? If so, why?

I think “Only Love” speaks to me the most, it feels more like a gift than something that I wrote, which I’m so glad to finally share.

What message or messages do you hope fans take away from Only Love and your music in general?

If you have a dream and you’re willing to do whatever it takes, magic can happen.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?

I’m actually working on some signals with a fantastic musician called Dave Man to be released this year. Also, I’m working on a separate project with Andy McManus, which I’m very excited about.

Before you go, let’s ask you an off-topic question. What is your favorite food?

I do love a bit of salted caramel ice cream.

Thank you for the great interview; wish you much continued success!
