Greek Grunge band GUS SEVENTY SEVEN kick off the month of May with a nine-track album, NINE PATHS IN ONE DIRECTION. It was preceded by their acclaimed sophomore album, THE EARLY DAYS. The LP features two cover songs. One of the songs from the album, “Torn and broken,” is accompanied by a music video – animation done by Bilal.
The project pays homage to the 90s Grunge, Seattle sound. The record has a melancholic tone and masterfully tackles germane topics, such as depression, loss, addiction, self-love, self-worth, and politics. “This album is simply the externalization of our love for music and our inner need to create.” GUS SEVENTY SEVEN continue, “The composition of the band has changed over the years and the whole project has become more personal.”
The album kicks off with a bang with “Torn and broken.” The hard-hitting song sets the tone for the album. The second song, “Future Of The Mankind,” carries a palpable message and features a killer breakdown. The next track is “Ty cobb (Soundgarden cover),” which is a rendition that GUS SEVENTY SEVEN does justice. Track four, “Youth never lies,” slows the the tempo down a bit, but maintains the album’s energy. “No One Can Save Me” is up next. It is a vulnerable, raw record that will resonate with all listeners. Track six, “Old Days,” is a nostalgic piece that is reminiscent of Nirvana. “Judas” picks the tempo and grit back up, and introduces unique sounds within the instrumentation that are not ubiquitous to rest of the album. The penultimate jam, “Again (Alice In Chains cover),” is the second featured cover. The closer, “Soulful Cries,” is an enchanting soundscape that keeps the listener dialed in for the full six minutes and twenty-four seconds.
