With No Longer Lost out now, we took some time to hear from Cosmic Songbird and Frances Yonge. Read below to learn more about Cosmic Songbird and Frances Yonge, the story behind No Longer Lost, and what’s to come.
Hi! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?
Cosmic Songbird: I love this question! “Cosmic Songbird” came to me very naturally. The way that I create music is through conscious composing — streaming, channelling, and being guided purely by intuition and instinct. Everything I create comes from an organic, natural open space.
What city are you from, and where are you based now?
Cosmic Songbird: I was born in Crowborough in East Sussex, England. These days, I divide my time between Tunbridge Wells in England and Marbella in the South of Spain. Both places inspire me in different ways — England grounds me, and Spain opens me up creatively with its light, nature, and rhythm.
Frances: I am from Kent and based now in rural Tenterden, where I am inspired by nature and evocative sounds and images from my childhood, living near to the steam railway. I love being surrounded by beauty and space, which provide the perfect writing environment.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
Cosmic Songbird: Honestly, music chose me. It started when I was eight years old — my dad bought me a piano, and I remember that day so vividly. My first teacher, Mrs. Chalmers, lived just behind my school, and I would walk to her house every week. From the very first music book she gave me; I just “got it.” It felt like my language — something that understood me as much as I understood it.
Mrs. Chalmers later told my mum that I had a natural singing voice and recommended another teacher, Mrs. Bridger. I grew up in a beautiful countryside lane between Five Ashes and Mayfield, and that’s where my voice really began to blossom. I studied hard, took all my exams, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in music.
Even as a child, music was never just a hobby for me — it was home. It’s always been the way I connect, communicate, and express my truth.
Frances: I took to piano lessons quickly aged 9 and enjoyed the discovery of setting poems I wrote to music on the piano. I always sang in the garden and kept time to the rhythm of my swing as I wrote my first songs. I was lucky to have a very creative piano teacher who listened to and encouraged my musings. My parents always encouraged my creativity and my childhood home was happy and chaotic, allowing free thinking.
After trying a career in marketing I knew that music was the only path for me and since then have had a varied career in composition, performance and teaching.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
Cosmic Songbird: My sound is “an experience.” It’s natural, intuitive, and deeply emotional. I began as a classically trained opera singer at the Royal Northern College of Music, where I sang repertoire by Schubert, Mozart, and folk music.
But over time, I began exploring beyond classical form — embracing my natural tone, shamanic and tribal sounds, and a language called “Anuhazi”: the language of the soul.
I’d describe my sound as epic, transparent, wild, activating, angelic, and natural. It’s the sound of the cosmos meeting the human heart.
Frances: Songwriting has always been a way in which I can communicate honestly so my sound is authentic and potent. My piano arrangements are rich and intricate and my songs have been described as “ageless and beautiful.”
Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
Cosmic Songbird: Yes, I do! I love working out at the gym, walking my dog, and travelling — I’ve visited 56 countries so far. I adore being in nature, watching the sea, and drinking tea. I also love yoga and reading — novels, psychology, and books that expand the mind.
Creativity is part of me. I meditate, chant, and live very cleanly — in how I eat, think, and move. I don’t measure life in time anymore; I see it in frequency frames. Each day is a fresh vibration to tune into.
Frances: Yoga is my main hobby but is more of a way of life and a perfect antidote to the intense creative life I lead. There is a fine line between hobby and career with music! It is really everything to me and fills every free moment.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
Cosmic Songbird: I’m inspired by artists who use their voices truthfully and unapologetically — Dolly Parton, Petula Clark, Annie Lennox, Tina Turner, and Nina Simone. Their tones are raw, natural, and timeless.
I’m also deeply moved by Jennifer Hudson, whom I had the incredible chance to see live at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. And of course, Beyoncé and Lauryn Hill — both icons of strength and feminine power.
Frances: I am exposed to a huge range of musicality through my work and I embrace all styles from classical to pop. I am increasingly interested in jazz, not least due to the improvisatory opportunities it presents.
I love Bach, Bill Evans, Sondheim….PJ Harvey is my top female artist – the way she uses her voice is so creative and she creates many personas in her incredible songs.
What is your dream music collaboration?
Cosmic Songbird: My dream collaboration is with will.i.am. I’ve felt this for over a year now. I believe he would understand “Cosmic Songbird” — the channelling, the freestyling, the translation of universal sounds through voice and body.
I can already imagine his eyes lighting up as we create — two worlds meeting through vibration and sound. So yes, Will…let’s collaborate. Let’s galactivate. Let’s connect.
Frances: I would love to write songs for films!
What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?
Cosmic Songbird: Creating No Longer Lost has been one of my proudest moments — but the path began with my 2022 EP, Born to Stand Out. I went into the studio with my producer Vinnie, told him I had four titles and no plan, and said, “Let’s create.” Those four tracks became cosmic soundscapes — they flowed through me with ease, and I loved layering the tracks in the moment using all my musical intuition and gifts.
That experience taught me how to be the sound. It led me to collaborate with Frances Yonge, and ultimately to this album. The title says it all — I’m no longer lost. I’m not boxed in, labelled, or defined. I’m simply a creative vessel, open to whatever wants to move through me.
Frances: I am very proud of all the albums that I have written, which tell the story of my life so far. Looking back, I am shown the importance of finishing projects and sharing your sound. No Longer Lost is the latest in the canon and fills me with pride as it is the result of a new direction in my work, and is full of life, power and femininity.
What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?
Cosmic Songbird: To stop people-pleasing. To remember that there’s no such thing as failure — only feedback. And that nothing is rejection, it’s redirection.
I B.I.D on myself today, not on others: Boundaries, Integrity, and Discernment. It helps me stay aligned and make clear, intuitive decisions. No longer lost to others’ opinions, judgments and approval. YAY!
Plus saying yes to things that scare me has also been key — like when I became a presenter on Wellbeing Radio. That experience opened new creative channels within me and within my professional network.
Frances: That I am not myself when I am not creating, and that creative endeavours bring profound meaning to life and inspire others.
Now onto No Longer Lost. What inspired this album?
Cosmic Songbird: The inspiration began in 2020 when I wrote my book, Light the Way. It included twelve poems that each honoured a woman or a moment of transformation in my life.
Two of them — Trust and Noor — are especially personal. Trust came from the healing journey after a miscarriage, while Noor (meaning “light”) symbolised the illumination and renewal that followed. It’s about moving from grief to grace — from victimhood to victory.
In 2024, I met singer/songwriter Frances Yonge. Her music felt like it was made for my voice. After reading Light the Way, Frances said, “Natalie, I’d love to put your poems to music.” That moment birthed No Longer Lost — a song cycle, a collaboration of hearts. With Sam Hall’s breathtaking arrangements, the project evolved into something I call “angelic electronica” — ethereal, expansive, and healing.
What is the overall theme of No Longer Lost?
Cosmic Songbird: It’s about being human — rediscovering yourself after being lost in fear, denial, or an identity crisis. It’s the heroine’s journey — a woman reclaiming her voice, truth, and light.
Each track is a chapter: from “Ophelia” to “Celeste” to “Tsuki,” and finally “Venus,” which represents rebirth and empowerment. Venus, connected to Earth, carries the energy of creation — the pulsing feminine seed. The album moves through struggle to sovereignty. It’s a journey from hiding to shining.
How did the collaboration with Frances Yonge come about?
Cosmic Songbird: In 2024, I returned from Spain wanting to create again. A friend recommended several pianists, and I was instantly drawn to Frances. I call her my “Regal Eagle” — she plays with such power and grace.
Our connection was instant — Frances describes it as a friend romance “fromance.” Within weeks, we had sound clips, auditions, and I performed the opening for Club Quantum in Tunbridge Wells. Then, Frances read Light the Way and said, “Let’s turn your poems into music.” And, that’s when the real magic began.
If you want to experience our synergy, watch the acoustic version of the album launch on my Cosmic Songbird YouTube channel — just piano and voice, pure and alive.
What was the creative process like when making No Longer Lost?
Cosmic Songbird: It was fast, fluid, and full of flow. Frances composed all the music within one month while I was travelling through Egypt, India, Japan, South Korea, and Canada. When I returned, I went straight into the studio — three days later!
I learned all the songs by ear, immersing myself in Frances’s intricate compositions. Sometimes she would conduct me as I recorded. We worked in her home studio with her husband, Paul Sayers, as sound engineer — he also mixed and mastered the album beautifully.
Frances: The songs came to me quickly as I sat at the piano, and I had a sense of calm and purpose about our project. I enjoyed the collaboration from the start, and having a partner to share ideas with brought energy and a sense of accountability. Normally, I sing my own songs but I loved hearing Natalie’s stunning vocals which came through with grace and sensitivity.
Cosmic Songbird: Then, Sam Hall joined as arranger. I’ll never forget hearing his version of “Luna” for the first time. I was walking down the high street in Tunbridge Wells, and I kept exclaiming, “Wow, wow, wow” — it was enormous, celestial, breathtaking. The whole process became this joyful, three-way co-creative collaboration.
How long did it take to complete No Longer Lost?
Cosmic Songbird: Nine months — just like a creative birth. From conception to completion, every phase felt divinely timed.
Our first live performance was on May 22nd in my hometown of Tunbridge Wells, part of my event series The Power of Us. The full album premiere will take place in Bristol on November 13th at the Radnor Rooms, featuring Sam Hall’s complete arrangements. It’s going to be pure alchemy.
Is there a specific song on No Longer Lost that speaks to you the most? If so, what is it called, and what is it about?
Cosmic Songbird: “Noor” is the song of my heart. It emerged from loss and became light. It’s my “light baby,” born from my experience of baby loss and the healing that followed.
Frances first sang the melody to me — “Look into my eyes and you will see, I am light, a force of nature.” It was simple and true. Sam Hall’s arrangement brought me to tears.
I hope listeners allow it to move them, to have their own interpretations, and to share their experiences with us. It’s no longer just my song — it belongs to everyone who finds healing in it.
What message or messages do you hope fans take away from No Longer Lost and your music in general?
Cosmic Songbird: That perfection is not the goal — presence is. My music invites people to reconnect with their natural sound, their natural truth.
I want listeners and artists alike to feel free to be unfiltered, unedited, and deeply human. To let their voices crack, expand, and resonate. That’s where spirit lives — in the cracks, the honest, the real.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?
Cosmic Songbird: The No Longer Lost premiere is happening November 13th at the Radnor Rooms in Bristol — it will be the first full “angelic electronica” performance of the album.
We’ve applied for PRS Foundation’s Women Make Music funding to support the next creative chapter. After that, I’ll be taking The Cosmic Songbird Show on tour — a live journey of sound, healing, and activation. Stay tuned — this is only the beginning.
