With “One More Night” out now, we took some time to hear from Carδamo. Read below to learn more about Carδamo, the story behind “One More Night,” and what’s to come.
Hi Carδamo! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?
My name is Cardamon, and so it made sense to shorten it for ease of finding it online, except I decided that I had to include the δ (delta) as homage to my Cypriot ancestry; so now it’s pretty hard either way…
What city are you from and where are you based now?
I was born in North London, and I still have my base and network there. But as I said, I have Cypriot Heritage from my mum’s side and Italian Heritage from my dad’s.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
I picked up the violin when I was quite young, then started singing and producing at sixteen with the intention of doing everything DIY. At university, I studied music production, and it really consolidated the idea that I would pour everything into the music industry.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
Charli XCX meets Shygirl, but sillier and gayer.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
I love learning languages! I am fascinated by how they work, and I’d love to live abroad some day, so I keep on my toes with various languages on Duolingo.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
Dorian Electra, Imogen Heap, SOPHIE, JME, Count Baldor, and Lady Gaga.
What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?
Probably just now being accepted as a member of the Resident Artists’ Program created by prestigious London venue ‘The Roundhouse.’
What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?
Keep going. Keep learning. Stay hungry.
Now onto your release, ‘One More Night.’ What inspired this song? What is ‘One More Night’ about?
It’s an exploration of sexuality in the club scene. Going on a night out and bringing someone home that you may not really be interested in other than for ‘One More Night’ of sex. It specifically plays with my thoughts surrounding sex and the queer scene in London Nightlife.
What was the creative process like when making ‘One More Night?’ How long did it take to complete ‘One More Night?’
It started with a collaborative session with ‘Talk To Frank’ in a shed in Brentford, where I was living at the time… The track itself existed in its energy and vibe within a few hours, but then there was a huge gap until finally recording the takes that we used. The mixing process was fairly smooth and it just felt natural. The creative session at the beginning was truly the most fun part, where we could just play around with textures and sounds. This is how I like to make music with people.
How did the collaboration with Talk To Frank come about?
We are friends and I knew that I wanted to write something with him because his voice is iconic. It just sort of happened naturally.
What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from ‘One More Night?’
Go out and get crazy. But, be safe obv…
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?
More singles! This track is a part of a mixtape of sorts. The track before this one, ‘Cat & Mouse,’ was the first and this is the second, so there are lots more to come.
