Following a two-year hiatus, Minnesota music artist Blunt Blade kicked off the summer with the lead single, “Sprawling.” “Sprawling” appears on his second album, Forgiveness. The seven-track album takes listeners on a musical and metaphorical journey. Utilizing sounds from Rock and its various subgenres, Electronic music, etc., Blunt Blade crafts a full-bodied album that is bold, captivating, and all-around impressive.
“Each song tells a story of tragedy, some with a moral and others with a more ambiguous theme.” Multi-instrumentalist Blunt Blade continues, “They are dark, moody, and melodic.” Forgiveness starts off with the lead single, “Sprawling.” “Sprawling” sets the tone for the album. Track two, “Justified,” has an experimental, synthy sound. The song is accompanied by a music video. The visual depicts a story of a man’s relationship turmoil.
“Helpless” kicks off with killer percussion. The song has a bouncy and heavy sound. The next song, “Hinderance,” flips the script with its slower tempo. The record keeps with the somber theme, but carries a spacey, orchestral sound. The slower tempo continues with “The Journey to Hope/Esperanza.” The flute-laden track has a jarring yet hopeful tone. The penultimate record, “Careless Acts,” is a unique record because of its builds and transitions. The song has lyrics that resonate and an old-school meets new-school sound. The epic closer is a ten-minute journey, which is ironic preceded by the shortest song on the album. The titular song, “Forgiveness,” goes through a variety of sonic phases. “The title track grows into an epic progressive rock journey for the senses and provides finality in a dark coda, while hinting at a final glimmer of hope,” Blunt Blade states.
