Amara-Fe is talented and creative with a history of music interest and creativity. Born and raised in the lone star state of Texas; Amara-Fe is the representation of creativity from the music to the stage name. With family stories and historical accounts of legendary songwriters like Minnie Riperton and Charlie Wilson, Amara-Fe has chosen the same path of making music. It all started with creating the identity, believing in self, making the music while thinking outside the box.

With her debut album, REBORN, out now, we took some time to hear from Amara-Fe. Read below to learn more about Amara-Fe, the story behind REBORN, and what’s to come.

Hi Amara-Fe! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?

It took a combination of looking up the meaning of words and also finding something that rolled off the tongue easily.

What city are you from and where are you based now?

I’m from Dallas Texas and currently based in Houston temporarily.

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?

I decided it many years ago but wasn’t consistent.

Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?

Yes. I was always told to think outside the box and create something, so that’s exactly what I did.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?

Radio-friendly with a bit of Pop-R&B and Hip-Hop mix.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?

Debating and using my imagination are my hobbies, haha.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

I don’t have a main influence. The entire musical industry is my influence.

In terms of songwriting, should the industry make it easier to work with individuals who are not in-house?

Yes.

Why do you think more artists are staying independent?

It’s because the industry is too hard to communicate with directly; they’ve intentionally added many middlemen, all direct contracts are private and it’s hard to even get in contact with A&Rs. Lastly, due to control over creativity.

What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?

The release of the album, REBORN, on all major platforms.

What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?

Invest in yourself even if it means creating a new identity and your biggest support of believers come from strangers, not friends and family.

Now onto your release, REBORN. What inspired this album?

Honestly, the industry inspired it. At first, I simply wanted to make music and pitch it to industry level artist. However, the industry doesn’t appear to have a friendly open door culture; thus, making it nearly impossible to gain their attention silently.

What is the overall theme of REBORN?

The overall theme is life stories with a hint of freedom and control with the unwillingness to give it up as hinted in the song, ‘Expectations.’

What was the creative process like when making REBORN?

It was simple. It was a combination of expressing thoughts, ideas and historical events along with a catchy rhythm, cadence and sound that could keep someone listening.

How long did it take to complete REBORN?

It took about six months for me to be completely satisfied with the album prior to release.

Is there a specific song on REBORN that speaks to you the most? If so, what is it called, and what is it about?

Yes. It’s ‘Unscripted’ because I’m not playing by a set of rules; this album, creativity, direction and music identity is all new and unscripted, haha.

What message or messages do you hope fans take away from REBORN and your music in general?

Let’s get back to the basics of making good music with instruments that a real band could play if necessary.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?

I have a new album that is completed titled Rooted Royalty. I have not set the official release date. In this new album, there’s more excitement, up-tempo along with a hint of rap cadence. The new album features 20 songs.
