With “Bad Girl” out now, we took some time to hear from Young V. Read below to learn more about Young V, the story behind “Bad Girl,” and what’s to come.
Hi Young V! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?
The name comes from my real name. My real name is Vincent Young. Growing up friends would be like V. Young, so I just flipped it, and you get Young V.
What city are you from, and where are you based now?
I am from Michigan City, Indiana, but I am based in Kingsford Heights, Indiana.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
I got into music Young. I was about 12 or 13 when I started writing. I was in a group at that time with my brother and one of his friends. My brother had a friend who’s step father had some recording equipment in his basement. His step dad did jingles, and he agreed to record us in his free time. By the time I turned 15, I began to get serious about it.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
The sound that I have is Trap/R&B – it infuses the love that I have with rapping and infuses it with an R&B vibe.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
My hobbies outside of music involve any computer work. I have degrees in IT, so I do a lot with the computer.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
Lil Wayne, Da Baby, Finesse, mostly Midwest and southern artists.
Who would be a dream to collaborate with?
If I could pick an artist to work with right now, it would be Lil Wayne. I think that would be a nice collab.
What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?
One of my proudest moments in my career was signing my publishing deal with Tate Music Group.
What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?
Greatest lessons that I’ve learned so far is to read your contract and be careful who you trust.
Now onto your release, “Bad Girl.” What inspired this song? What is “Bad Girl” about?
The song, “Bad Girl,” is about my wife actually. How she balances a career and family and holds me down. That’s what makes her bad.
What was the inspiration behind the cover artwork for “Bad Girl?”
I actually used a template for the cover art. It has palm trees and most of the time when me and the wife are outside, it’s usually in Florida or somewhere tropical.
What was the creative process like when making “Bad Girl?”
I just thought about everything that I love in my wife and our life.
How long did it take to complete “Bad Girl?”
Writing and recording the song took about a couple hours.
What is your favorite lyric in “Bad Girl” and why?
My favorite line is “she more than just a vibe she my ride or die.” Because, it goes beyond us taking the trips and getting money, but it’s about us having each other’s back.
What do you hope fans take away from “Bad Girl” and your music in general?
That it’s not always about how she looks, it’s about how she carries herself and how you hold each other down.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?
So, what’s next for me is finishing up the 4eva Young album and working on my artist’s, Kush, next album.
