John Miller is a Paris-based French-American producer and DJ whose music moves between house, techno, and tech house. Drawing inspiration from classical music, progressive rock, and electronic pioneers, he creates tracks that combine powerful rhythms with deeply personal emotions. His latest release, “Sexy Blueberry,” transforms heartbreak into something warm, playful, and made for the dance floor.
With “Sexy Blueberry” out now, we took some time to hear from John Miller. Read below to learn more about John Miller, the story behind “Sexy Blueberry,” and what’s to come.
Hi John Miller! Let’s start with how did you choose your artist name?
It is simply my real name. I thought about creating a more mysterious artist name, but in the end, using my own felt more honest and authentic.
What city are you from, and where are you based now?
I am from Paris, France, and I am still based there today.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
I never really made a conscious decision to pursue music as a career. I am not even sure “career” is the right word for it. For me, music feels more like a calling or a vocation—something I naturally needed to follow.
How would you describe your sound?
My sound exists somewhere between house and techno, with a strong tech house influence. I like combining energy, groove, and emotion without limiting myself to one specific genre.
What do you think makes your approach to music unique?
I do not come from one single musical world. My influences range from classical music and progressive rock to house and techno, so I naturally approach electronic music with a very open mind. I try to create tracks that have enough energy for the dance floor, but also carry a real emotion or personal story.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
I enjoy partying, playing video games with my friends, and simply making the most of life. I have recently become much more of a life enthusiast, and experiencing new things helps me stay creative.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
My influences are extremely varied. They range from Chopin and Bach to Maceo Plex, Laurent Garnier, and Victor Ruiz, while also passing through artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, David Gilmour, Roger Hodgson, and Jimmy Page. I think every kind of music can teach you something.
What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?
DJing for my friends and then seeing some of them perform after me was a very proud moment. Being able to share the stage and watch the people around me express themselves through music felt genuinely special.
What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?
One of the greatest lessons that I have learned is that life is not over until I decide it is. There is always a way to rebuild, reinvent yourself, and begin again.
What does success in music mean to you?
For me, success would be creating music that people genuinely want to return to. Of course, I would love to play bigger stages and reach a wider audience, but the most important thing is building a real connection with people through my tracks and continuing to grow without losing the honesty behind what I create, and I won’t.
Now onto your release, “Sexy Blueberry.” What inspired this song?
The song was inspired by heartbreak and by my former relationship. She was my “Sexy Blueberry,” and the track came from everything that I was feeling after losing that relationship.
What was the inspiration behind the cover artwork for “Sexy Blueberry?”
Quite literally, a sexy blueberry! I wanted the artwork to feel playful, light-hearted, and slightly unexpected.
What was the creative process like when making “Sexy Blueberry?”
The process was about putting my heart into the lyrics while trying to remain warm and sincere. I wanted to express the pain of heartbreak without sounding angry, sour, or bitter.
How long did it take to complete “Sexy Blueberry?”
It took around three days to complete. The main idea came together quite naturally because the emotions behind it were already very clear to me.
What do you hope fans take away from “Sexy Blueberry” and your music in general?
More than anything, I hope people simply enjoy it. Whether they connect with the story, dance to it, or just feel something for a few minutes, that is already enough for me.
What’s next? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?
I am currently working on a new techno EP with a darker, more underground sound inspired by the atmosphere of Berlin. I do not have an official release date yet, but more information will be announced soon.
