With “Divine Plan” out now, we took some time to hear from Ditzy Desselle. Read below to learn more about Ditzy Desselle, the story behind “Divine Plan,” and what’s to come.

Hi Ditzy Desselle! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?

People always said that I’m too smart to be this ditzy. So instead of fighting it, I made it a brand. Now, it’s my whole era.

What city are you from, and where are you based now?

I’m from the DMV! Born and raised – it’s kinda the only world that I know. And yup, I’m still based here. Loyal like that.

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?

I didn’t really choose music. My momma was a singer, and she needed a pianist, so she just slid me right into the job. And then, I married a Berklee-trained musician/producer, so it’s like…yeah, this path was pretty much inevitable.

How has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and
defining your sound?

Honestly? I grew up drowning in music in the best way. My mom was a
singer, my dad a pastor, so church was like a weekly concert. I took piano lessons, my sister sang, my brother played trombone…like, everybody was doing something musical. So my sound now? It’s literally all that mixed together.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be
familiar with you?

I don’t really know how to categorize my sound yet. I’ve always been a lyricist and pianist – not a “vocalist.” I only started singing my songs because no one else would, haha. So, my sound is just…me. Raw, real, emotional, and a little bit ditzy.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay
creative?

I love interior decorating – like, seriously, I will redesign a room for fun.
And, I’m really into sound engineering. I mix and master my own songs, which…you can probably tell, haha. But, it keeps me learning and experimenting, which inspires my music.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

It’s honestly impossible to choose, but I’m definitely inspired by the ’90s and early 2000s – D’Angelo, Destiny’s Child, all that good stuff. And then later, Adele and Sam Smith really got me in my feelings, so I’d say I live somewhere between those worlds.

What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?

One of my proudest moments was seeing my first single hit 50k streams – I was losing it, like “OMG people actually like me?!” Then, I found out the streams were bots. Total plot twist. But honestly, it taught me perseverance and not to chase numbers. Now, I celebrate the real listeners.

What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so
far?

I thought success meant big streams and a giant following. Like, I really
thought that was the whole game. But now I get that success is just…progress. Getting better at your craft, leveling up little by little. That’s what matters.

Now onto your release, “Divine Plan.” What inspired this song? What
is “Divine Plan” about?

I wrote “Divine Plan” during a time when everything felt up in the air. I was overthinking everything, haha. But, the song is really about surrender – trusting that there’s a bigger plan working behind the scenes. Even when it doesn’t look perfect, it’s still exactly how it’s supposed to be.

What was the inspiration behind the cover artwork for “Divine Plan?”

The artwork features an Egyptian pyramid because I wanted a symbol of divine mystery and higher guidance. The pyramids have always felt like something beyond human ability for their time, almost like a cosmic intervention. That energy matches the message of surrender and trust in “Divine Plan.”

What was the creative process like when making “Divine Plan?”

I’m such an overthinker, so that’s literally what started the whole song,
haha. I wanted something Neo-Soul as a little tribute to D’Angelo. We drafted the first version, but I got worried people would think it was a Gospel song, so we tweaked and adjusted it. I even performed the chorus on social media to test the waters – nobody booed, so that was my green light!

How long did it take to complete “Divine Plan?”

It actually came together pretty quickly! From the first draft to the final
version, it didn’t take long at all. Once the idea clicked, everything just
flowed.

What is your favorite lyric in “Divine Plan” and why?

Easily that line – “The Divine’s gotta better plan than mine.” Because hello, me overthinking? Me stressing? Me analyzing every detail? That lyrics checks me every time. It’s my reminder to surrender.

What message or messages do you hope fans take away from
“Divine Plan” and your music in general?

Wow, that’s an interesting question! To be honest, when I write my lyrics, I write for me. It’s usually something that I’m personally going through. I don’t really have fans in mind while I’m writing – I’m just trying to process my own stuff. But if someone hears it and it resonates, then it feels like the pain had a purpose.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or
do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout
for?

I do have new music on the way! I’m currently working on a single about being non-judgmental. I’ve always felt like people form opinions about me before really knowing me, so I wanted to explore that in a song. As for performances, I don’t have any tour dates to announce at the moment.
