With “Runways” out now, we took some time to hear from Seema Farswani. Read below to learn more about Seema Farswani, the story behind “Runways,” and what’s to come.

Hi Seema Farswani! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?

My artist name is my real name. I’m an Indian American, and I chose to keep my original name because my music is deeply personal and rooted in my identity.

“Seema” is derived from the Sanskrit word Seema (or Sima), meaning limit or boundary. Interestingly, my work often explores crossing those very boundaries—between cultures, cities, and emotions.

It’s also a multicultural feminine name associated with qualities like self-awareness, inner strength, and clarity of purpose—values that strongly resonate with both my life and my music.

What city are you from, and where are you based now?

I’m an Indian American, raised in Dubai, with early years shaped by frequent visits to India. I’ve also lived across cities like Chicago and Connecticut, each adding a different perspective to how I see the world.

I’m currently based in Singapore, and this cross-cultural journey continues to shape both my identity and my sound.

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?

I’m an interior designer by background, and music began as a passion alongside my work. I started pursuing it more seriously about a decade ago, beginning with training in North Indian classical music, which gave me a strong foundation in discipline and vocal depth.

Around five years ago, I transitioned into Western vocals, which opened up a completely new space for expression and storytelling. One thing naturally led to another—from learning and exploring to songwriting and releasing my own music.

Most recently, my summer at Berklee last year further deepened my understanding of music and strengthened my connection to it, both creatively and technically.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?

I would describe my sound as cinematic global pop. It blends emotional storytelling with layered production, drawing from different cultures and genres—whether that’s pop, electronic textures, or subtle world influences. My music is less about fitting into a genre and more about creating a feeling or atmosphere.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?

I’m a bit of a tennis junkie—I get my adrenaline from the game. It’s my outlet where I let everything out, reset, and come back more focused.

I also enjoy sketching and painting, which helps me slow down and find a sense of calm. That balance between high energy and stillness keeps me grounded and continuously fuels my creative flow.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

I have many favourites because I genuinely enjoy different genres, so it’s hard to narrow it down to just one.

My influences range from powerful vocal storytellers like Christina Aguilera, Adele, Sia, Sheryl Crow, Beyoncé and Rihanna, to artists like Etta James, Norah Jones, Carla Morrison and Shilpa Rao, whose vocal styles are more nuanced, textured and emotionally layered.

My influences span powerful vocal storytellers to nuanced, textural voices—but what connects them all is their ability to make emotion feel both intimate and expansive, which is exactly what I aim to create in my music.

Who would be a dream to collaborate with?

Oooh! That’s a difficult one — I draw inspiration from many artists across different genres and cultures.

I’d love to collaborate with artists like Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Olivia Newton, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Charlie Puth, and Coldplay — artists who bring both emotional depth and a strong artistic identity to their work.

On the cinematic side, working with Hans Zimmer would be a dream. His ability to build emotion through sound is something I deeply resonate with.

Ultimately, I’m drawn to collaborations that push boundaries — where music becomes a shared language that connects people across worlds.

What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?

One of the most meaningful moments in my journey has been seeing my original music receive international radio airplay—especially “Sketches on the Walls” and “Sketches on the Walls – Reimagined.”

The incredible support from radio stations, along with listeners who have deeply connected with the music, has been truly special. Watching both versions resonate across different parts of the world has reinforced my belief that music can travel beyond borders and speak to people in its own unique way.

What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?

The biggest lesson has been to stay authentic and patient. Growth in music isn’t linear, and it’s easy to compare yourself to others. But I’ve learned that building something meaningful takes time—and trusting your own voice is everything.

Now onto your release, “Runways.” What inspired this song? What is “Runways” about?

“Runways” started with a simple idea—a metaphor that stayed with me: every runway is a moment where you leave something behind…and take off into the unknown.

From there, it evolved into a story about love in motion—relationships that exist across cities, time zones, and fleeting moments in airports. It’s about those in-between spaces where goodbyes, reunions, and life-changing decisions happen. At its core, it’s about connection that continues despite distance.

What was the inspiration behind the cover artwork for “Runways?”

The artwork for “Runways” is inspired by love in a world constantly in motion—whether it’s daily departures, long-distance relationships, or couples who stay connected despite distance and time apart.

I wanted it to capture that in-between space where movement and emotion intersect—the quiet tension of leaving, the anticipation of return, and the strength it takes to stay connected across distance. It’s a feeling many people can relate to, in their own way.

What was the creative process like when making “Runways?”

The process was very intuitive. The melody and emotion came first, and the Spanish lines emerged naturally as part of the storytelling, adding warmth and intimacy. They reflect a sense of longing—the feeling of being lost in a loved one’s arms, even when communication between two people is rare, yet the connection remains strong no matter the distance.

From there, it evolved into a layered soundscape that mirrors the feeling of travel—fluid, expansive, and slightly nostalgic.

How long did it take to complete “Runways?”

“Runways” came together over a few weeks. The core idea formed quickly, but refining the production and emotional layers took time to ensure everything felt cohesive and true to the story.

What is your favorite lyric in “Runways” and why?

One line that stays with me is:

“No matter the miles, no matter the place — across the desert winds and oceans blue, every road I take still leads to you.”

That line captures the emotional essence of Runways. It speaks to a connection that transcends distance — something deeper than geography or time.

No matter how far life takes you — across cities, time zones, or different phases of life — there are certain people, or even emotions, you inevitably find your way back to.

It’s both deeply personal and universally felt… that quiet pull of always returning, no matter how far you go.

What do you hope fans take away from “Runways” and your music in general?

“Runways” is, at its heart, about love in a world that never really stands still — unfolding across arrivals, departures, and everything in between.

In a fast-moving life, where distance and time can blur communication, the song reflects a quieter truth — that real connection has a way of enduring beyond all of it.

It lives in those in-between spaces… where we’re constantly moving, leaving something behind, stepping into the unknown — yet still holding on to what truly matters.

As an artist, I’m still evolving — constantly exploring and weaving diverse cultural influences into my music.

If listeners feel that — even for a moment — if something resonates with them personally — then I feel I’ve already won.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?

I’m continuing to shape a sound that feels cinematic, global, and emotionally driven — something that reflects both movement and identity.

Following Runways, I’m working on new music that pushes this even further — blending genres, languages, and textures to create more immersive storytelling.

I also have a live performance coming up on May 1st, where I’ll be performing alongside incredibly talented musicians from Mumbai and Singapore for a charity event — which makes it even more meaningful.

It’s a multi-genre set with my band, bringing together different dimensions of my music — from cinematic soundscapes to more intimate, expressive moments.

There’s a lot more coming — both musically and visually.
