Izora is a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter whose cinematic Alt-Pop sound blends ethereal textures with raw, evocative storytelling. Born and raised in India, she made her debut in 2019 with “Feel Better,” earning recognition from major publications like Rolling Stone India and Billboard Argentina.
Now 22, Izora is preparing to release her new EP, VERTIGO, on May 30—a bold evolution of her artistry that explores themes of power, vulnerability, and emotional unraveling. With previously released singles, “Bring Me Down” and “SATISFIED,” she’s begun revealing the layered, deeply personal world of the project—one rooted in transformation and truth.
Backed by The Hit House Records—a label known for its work with Disney+, Hulu, and Marvel—Izora is carving her own lane in Alternative Pop. With high-profile collaborations and live performances on the horizon, she’s an artist on the rise—one to watch.
With her single, “SATISFIED,” out now, we took some time to hear from Izora. Read below to learn more about Izora, the story behind her latest single, and what’s to come.
Hi Izora! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?
This is such a great question, and I wish I had a thought-out, deep story that I could tell about how I came up with this name. But, I was in ninth grade and wanted to have a different artist name—a one-word name like Lorde or SZA. So, I started brainstorming and went from Zora, to Z, to IZORA, and it just stuck. I really wanted a ‘Z’ in my name, haha.
What city are you from and where are you based now?
I am originally from Himachal Pradesh, India, located in the heart of the western Himalayas. I moved out here to Los Angeles when I was eighteen (about four years ago) and have called it home ever since. There’s nowhere else that I’d rather be.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
Oof! I started learning to play guitar in fifth grade and was part of my middle school rock band. I’ve had my battles with mental health ever since sixth grade, but listening to music, playing music, and writing music has always been the one time in my day where I feel completely disconnected from my demons and inner battles.
I’m the best version of myself when I’m doing anything music-related. The artists that I listened to genuinely saved my sanity, and writing helped me overcome things even therapy couldn’t. So, I’ve known since middle school that this is what I want to do, it’s the only way that I can truly be myself.
Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?
My dad was the first to show me music – he introduced me to everything from the ’60s to the early 2000s and really expanded my musical vocabulary. Nobody in my family is a musician, but our house was always filled with some kind of music, whether it was worship or death metal.
My parents and older brother have given me unwavering support in my pursuit of a career in music, and nothing tops that.
My sound is a mix of Dark Pop with some Rock and other Experimental influences. I grew up listening to such a vast variety of music that I don’t think that I could ever stick to just one genre.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
My sound lives somewhere between Dark Pop and Alt-Pop, with hints of Rock and Electronic elements. Think moody melodies, emotional lyrics, and cinematic production, kind of in the world of artists like Billie Eilish, Lorde, or Bea Miller. I like to blend vulnerability with intensity, whether it’s through soft, haunting vocals or high-energy moments that hit hard. If you’re into music that makes you feel something deeply while still vibing to a strong beat, you’ll probably connect with what I do.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
I love to meditate, it helps me stay grounded, motivated, and focused. The music industry is so fast-paced and algorithm-heavy that it’s very easy to get lost in the craziness of it all. My love language is quality time, both with my friends and with myself, so meditating really helps me keep going and stay sane.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
This is a tough one! I grew up listening to a lot of Michael Jackson, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, and so on, and now I listen to everything from Linkin Park to Billie Eilish to Post Malone. I feel like I take a piece of everything that I listen to and infuse it into my own music.
Who would be a dream to collaborate with?
I would LOVE to work with FINNEAS. He is an exceptionally talented songwriter, and I wanna see what we would come up with together.
What are some of your future music career goals?
I have very big dreams and aspirations, but the biggest one in the near future is to go on tour and to explore different cities while sharing my music with new faces that, hopefully, become familiar ones someday.
What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?
Hmm, I don’t know if I have a single ‘proudest’ moment, but I’ve gotten DMs and emails from strangers telling me they were going through a dark time, and one of my songs played on a random playlist and it helped them feel heard and seen. Nothing is more gratifying than that.
That’s why I do what I do. It’s what the artists that I’m a fan of have done for me. That’s the essence of music in my opinion, sharing emotions – both good and bad. It’s easy to feel isolated in this world, and I’m beyond grateful if I’ve even made one person feel a little better.
What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?
Patience, humility, and the power of genuine relationships.
Now onto your release, ‘SATISFIED.’ What inspired this song?
I wrote this song when I felt humiliated by someone that I trusted, someone in a position of power. I wanted to channel that anger into power.
What is ‘SATISFIED’ about?
‘SATISFIED’ is about beating someone at their own game, challenging someone who tricked and used you for their own benefit. It’s like a duel, but this time, it’s on your terms, not theirs.
What is your favorite lyric in ‘SATISFIED?’
Ooo, I haven’t thought about this, probably:
‘Think my hand won’t win this time
But I like to bet on my life
Won’t turn my back on your knife
Watch me play till I’m satisfied’
What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from ‘SATISFIED?’
I hope people feel empowered and understood through my music. With ‘SATISFIED,’ specifically, I want people to know that it’s okay to stand up for yourself and take control when someone has tried to manipulate or use you. It’s about reclaiming your power and knowing your worth. More broadly, my music is about embracing all emotions, the struggles and the victories, and finding strength in being true to yourself.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?
My debut EP, VERTIGO, comes out May 30th. This is my first big project, and I can’t wait to share it with the world.
Where can we follow you on social media?
Thank you for the great interview; wish you much continued success!
