With “PLAY THA FIELD” out now, we took some time to hear from Charles Mission. Read below to learn more about Charles Mission, the story behind “PLAY THA FIELD,” and what’s to come.
Hi Charles Mission! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?
Honestly, I will say it came from pure creativity. I had just came home from maxing out from my bid, and I was shot so I felt I HAD to make a social media to spy, but it became what it is now. When you think of Charles Mission, you should think of John Wick.
What city are you from, and where are you based now?
I’m born in Harlem, NY, but I was raised in THA FIELD. Springfield Gardens, Queens.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
I think the point that I decided to take music serious was in 2017. I connected with some amazing people who I still call my brothers TODAY. They supported in essential ways that have put me in no other position, but to pursue this as more than a hobby and something that I feel I’m good at.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
For someone who has never heard any of my music before and goes to my Spotify page, “SO FLY,” is so calm and fire that it will fit to any mood you’re having on a good day. Then, “PEEP THIS,” is reality in the form of hurt. You PEEPING the funny movements towards you and what’s going on around you.
I make mood music. It’s either up or down in life, and the music reflects. “PLAY THA FIELD” is UP for everyone with a hard hit from the YNs and my age-group. It’s a great thing because that’s probably the entire goal of the song to me.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
I’m outside, I’m IN THA FIELD, so the creativity is constantly there for me. Life is lifing and we moving.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
Currently some of my main influences are Tory Lanez, Rob49, Herbo, Juice Wrld, Future, and XXX.
What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?
To have caught a single-deal with 10K Projects for my song, “SO FLY.” It came with a lot, and I caught their attention, so I’m grateful.
What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?
One of the main lessons that I have learned so far is to really stay humble with it. Don’t be tryna sh*t on people that you surpassed! It makes me wanna help them get to the next level to be honest.
Now onto your release, “PLAY THA FIELD.” What inspired this song? What is “PLAY THA FIELD” about?
Well, “PLAY THA FIELD” is a real thing. It’s on a type of time that’s kinda needed for 2025. Did you forget that we really outside with it. All of us, we really are coming outside on a mission, getting to that money. It’s a mission and were we getting it done at? THA FIELD! I got my brotha SRN_Shawtii on there because I felt that he was a great hit for the record. He got in the booth and didn’t need his iPhone or nothing. This was straight feelings and mood. I was just looking for the connect between the YNS and BIG BROS on some gang type of timing.
What was the inspiration behind the cover artwork for “PLAY THA FIELD?”
That really came from what I’m really living in real life. That’s my block, that’s where you can find at, infant or around the closed cafe. I was there since a jit, since it was lit.
How did the collaboration with Srn Shawtii come about?
It honestly came about from my man, MRPPV, my guy that be doing the RKOs, he linked us and we were locked in from there. I was already working on the record, and then I just went the YN direction and that let it manifest.
What was the creative process like when making “PLAY THA FIELD?” How long did it take to complete “PLAY THA FIELD?”
It was a great studio session. We were in the lab lit. He came through and the energy was already there from the record. I had let him hear the beat in the beginning. So when I came with the hook and he heard it, it was was over. The energy was exactly what he needed. He got busy.
How did the music video for “PLAY THA FIELD” come about? What was your vision for the video?
I tried to keep it tied to me and what’s going on in my environment, so I sat back and really visioned it – the black-and-white hallway, the BMW, everything. I saw it all before I even contacted the camera man. He just fulfilled my idea.
What message or messages do you hope fans take away from “PLAY THA FIELD” and your music in general?
I just want everyone to be able to catch a vibe off of what they hear. I have a lot of music, and I create off the mood, so hopefully they’re mood is more up than down.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?
Nah, no shows for now – I have this ankle monitor on my foot and parole is on my body like Neutrogena. But, I will be dropping in a second to keep the people intrigued and head-rocking. I just want them to love the music, I could care less how they feel about me.
