With “Can You See Me” out now, we took some time to hear from Anthony Casuccio. Read below to learn more about Anthony Casuccio, the story behind “Can You See Me,” and what’s to come.
Hi Anthony Casuccio! Let’s start with how did you get your artist name?
This is my real name.
What city are you from, and where are you based now?
I grew up in Buffalo NY, moved to New York City then San Francisco and Los Angeles and then returned to a suburb of Buffalo called Amherst.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started?
I have always had an affinity for music. From hearing my first Beatles song to Van Halen, I loved the guitar and started playing at an early age and wanted to be a performer. I also had an interest in technology. That coupled with music led to my interest in the recording industry where I have been working for the past 30 years. I always say music chooses you, what you do with that calling determines your musical path. I had to be involved in the music industry. I never thought twice about it. My parents were very supportive by first getting me trumpet lessons, then guitar lessons.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
I have been trying to figure that out. Alt-Rock, Alt-Pop. A very highly produced sound with nice harmonies. That is my Beatles influence. Being a guitar player, my sound is centered on the guitar. But, I do use synthesizer. And, I love string sounds and real drum parts.
Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
Anything near water. In the summer you can find me on my boat. I live near Lake Erie with is huge and the Niagara River with is so much fun. It is a happy place for me.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
I love the Beatles; they are my #1 influence. I love Oasis. There is a Canadian band called Triumph, their lead guitarist Rik Emmit had a big impact on my playing growing up. I am a huge U2 fan and wish I could sing like Bono.
If you could collaborate with any living artist, who would it be?
That would be Noel Gallagher from Oasis.
What’s one of the proudest moments of your music career so far?
Working on three Grammy-nominated albums is up there. Having a #1 song on the Euro Independent music charts is also very cool. Hearing my music in soap operas and on national commercials is always a thrill. I was working out at the gym when a jingle that I composed came on during CNN’s morning edition. I think I ran an extra mile that morning.
What would you say are the greatest lessons that you’ve learned so far?
Be open-minded and do not judge other people. Who are we to criticize others.
Now onto your release, “Can You See Me.” What inspired this song? What is “Can You See Me” about?
I originally started off trying to write this song for someone else. We discussed trying to write a Pop-rock song with a bit of Country crossover. When I presented the song to the potential audience, she did not like it, I did. So, I kept it for myself.
What was the inspiration behind the cover artwork for “Can You See Me?”
I wanted something minimalistic and bright and a play on the words “can you see me”, so I incorporated the binoculars as a prop.
What was the creative process like when making “Can You See Me?”
I came up with the lyrics and the chord structure and then built the song from there. I have a friend of mine that is an excellent country bass player Named Robin Grandin, I asked here to play bass on the song. Once that was finished, I added the extra touches, like some chorused guitar and low synths parts and finished it up.
How long did it take to complete “Can You See Me?”
I work fast when I am inspired. This song was completed in about two weeks. I sat on the mix for a few more. I then sat on the track for almost a year releasing two songs ahead of it before I pulled the trigger and released it this January.
What is your favorite lyric in “Can You See Me?”
“I could be anywhere, and you’d feel me. Now I‘m in front of you, and you don’t see me.”
What do you hope fans take away from “Can You See Me” and your music in general?
That I write and produce good songs that make them want to move and sing along too.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects, or do you have any upcoming shows that we should be on the lookout for?
Yes, I have a new song that I plan to release at the end of March, beginning of April.
